The End of an Era – The Hunger Games Saga

(I warn you this post may contain spoilers of the Mockingjay part 2 movie, read at your own risk)

IMG_2089.jpgThe hunger games by Suzanne Collins will always hold a special piece in my heart.

It all started with a book. Then another book, and another. And I was entranced by the Hunger Games series. My love (or obsession) for this book started a while ago, I had first heard people talk about it at high school, since it was all people would talk about. And after a while I decided to ask my mum to buy it for me so I could read it (I was too young at the time and didn’t have a job or my own money) which she gladly did. By this time my friend had already picked it up and started reading it, she would constantly text me and tell me how good it was. So the time I received my copy of the hunger games I was so excited to read it that I did so as soon as I got my hands on it. I loved it instantly, the world was unique and so were the characters. The whole idea was something new, fresh, something I haven’t come across before. Instantly there was a developing love for Peeta (team Peeta all the way!), as well as Katniss and her sister Prim.

The next thing you know I’ve finished all IMG_2108.jpgthe books and was waiting for the movie. The wait was so worth it once I saw the first movie. I though it was pretty bloody awesome, and it kept as close to the book as possible which was also another very very good thing. My friend and I practically fangirled the whole way through and pretty much cried together when prim died.

The next movie catching fire was pretty good. I did enjoy it as a whole, but I remember hating some parts of it. My friend and I saw it at the IMAX in Sydney which was so bloody cool. The screen was massive and it felt like you were in the movie. It was also 3D which was made the experience a lot more awesome. But seriously, gale is a butt.

Mockingjay part 1: it was good. I don’t think this one was my favourite out of them all. I found it lacked action and katness was starting to get in my nerves. The wait for this movie was kind of disappointing. And honestly I didn’t even buy the movie when it came out like the others (which were brought a couple of days after they released. I’m note sure whether or not it kept to the storyline since it’s been forever since I have actually read the book.

And finally for the final movie in the series, Mockingjay part 2 AKA the movie rollercoaster of emotions. I can’t even begin to explain how I felt watching the movie, Honestly I was sad, but really excited because we have waited so long for this movie to come out (well I have, it’s like waiting for Captain America – Civil war, I’m dying) which was funny to my Dad since he was laughing at my reactions before and during the movie itself. There were a few things that I felt were not touched on properly, one being (don’t read on if you haven’t read my warning at the start of this post) Prim’s death. When I watched it, I felt as if the characters didn’t react the way that I thought they would. It felt like it just happened and they moved on quickly which really annoyed me. Another death that struck me was Finnick’s, I can’t remember when I read this book (it’s been quite a while) so when that happened I nearly died, literally, I was holding onto the seats arm rests. It was intense. However, I loved how they ended the the movie, I felt as if it was true to the book and was perfect for the end of the series. I felt like it was a tad cheesy, but I guess it wasn’t that bad considering. What really got me though, was during the credits, Katniss starts singing ‘deep in the meadow‘ and oh god, I think I may have had tears (don’t tell my Dad haha).

Overall I feel like the movies complimented the books completely. There were only slight change but I felt as if all the scenes were kept accordance with the books which was pretty awesome. I loved the cast, I felt everyone who was picked was perfect for the role. They did a great job with the movies, and I’m sad to see this whole thing end, but I guess there are always going to be other things that will turn out to be bigger and better then the hunger games, who knows what will happen in the future.
